A another great crowd gathered for "The Drive For Five" this past Friday night at Lee County Speedway. Tommy contended for the win in the heat race, but had to settle for a second place finish. In the feature event, Elston started 9th and worked his way to a fourth place finish. Not a terrible run as the top five finish propelled Tommy to the top of the leader board in the season long points battle. Here is how the top five look for points at Lee County Speedway:

Pilot Grove Savings Bank & Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models
1 15 Tommy Elston 116 pts
2 7 Mark Burgtorf 115
3 42 Tom Darbyshire 98
4 38 Colby Springsteen 97
5 25 Lonnie Bailey 96

Please note that our schedule showed a race at Donnellson this Friday night, that was a miscue on our part, as Lee County Speedway will have the POWRi midgets races there this weekend. Team 15 will not be racing this weekend.

Shottenkirk Monte Carlo Wins Deery Brothers IMCA Summer Series in Allison, IA!

Last night saw Team 15 in Allison, IA at the Butler County Fairgrounds for the IMCA Summers Series, drawing in 35 cars for the event. Tommy won the second qualifying heat, then redrew the 5th starting position for the feature.

The fans got their money's worth, as Tommy & Jeff Aikey had a great two car battle, swiping the lead back & forth in the early stages. It was on one of the restarts that Elston made his move to pass Aikey for the lead. At the end, Tommy held off challenges from Ray Guss, Jr. to claim his second Summer Series win of his career, driving the Team 15's Monte Carlo/GRT/AEM racing engines.

This past Friday night saw night number two of the "Drive for Five" at Lee County Speedway. Twenty eight late models were checked in to try and claim the $1,000 first place prize. Tommy finished fourth in the heat race, then drew 10th for the starting position for the feature event. Elston did not stay there for long, as he began a steady charge to the front, on the low side, while everyone else was running on the high side. A caution with a couple laps to go, Tommy was now up to second. On the restart, Elston tried the high side to pass Mark Burgtorf, who had moved to the low side, but to now avail, Tommy had to settle for second place.

The "Drive For Five" continues this Friday night at Lee County Speedway, with Armed Forces Night at the races!

After time trials, Tommy started at the back of the qualifying heat race and won it from the back. Then in the 50 lap feature Tommy finished fifth for the night in the GRT/Monte Carlo late model.

West Liberty Speedway saw 43 late models for their $10,000 to win show on Saturday night. Team 15 started on the pole of the third qualifying heat and won the heat. Then finishing the night off in the 10th spot of the 50 lap feature.

The luck of the draw helped, as Tommy started from the pole position in both the heat & feature. Tommy would set sail from that starting position and never looked back.

Sixty six IMCA late models checked in on Saturday night at 34 Raceway for the season opener for the IMCA Summer Series. The luck of the draw/redraw system for line ups was not with Team 15, having to start at the tail of the third qualifying heat and failing to make the qualifying position in the heat race. Starting towards the back of the second last chance race, Tommy passed numerous cars to clinch the final transfer spot for the 50 lap main event.

Starting 20th in the Slocum 50 Memorial race, Tommy brought the car home to a 12th place finish. Although it was not a win, it sure felt like it having to pass that many cars in one night. Next race is this Friday night at Davenport Speedway.

It's official…..the racing season is finally underway! This past Saturday night was the WDRL's season opener at the Davenport Speedway, this also being the first race of the season for Team 15 with Tommy Elston at the wheel. Thirty three cars were checked in to do battle, at the ½ mile Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds track. Starting at the back of the 3rd qualifying heat, Tommy finished third therefore accumulating enough passing points to start in the pole dash, which determines the top 8 starting positions of the feature. Passing was at a premium, Elston started sixth in the feature and got "nipped" at the line to finish the night in the seventh position.

The next race is this Saturday night at 34 Raceway for the season opener for the IMCA Summer Series, it is the Slocum 50….See you at the races!

The 2009 racing season will be a new beginning for Team 15. Lynn & Karen Richard are enthusiastic about having Tommy Elston as their driver of the #15 late model. Over the years there have been many drivers for the team including: Mike Smith, Ron Jackson, Jerry Pilcher, Denny Banks, Matt Strassheim, Lynn & Chris Richard.

In 2009, Elston will wheel the Team 15/GRT/AEM powered Monte Carlo on the dirt tracks in the Tri State area. A VERY tentative schedule has been posted, watch for updates as other racing series schedules are released.
