August 23, 2010

It was a week of highs and lows and at least it finished on a high. At the State Fair, Jeff had a great fourth place starting position, but on the second lap another car "turned" Jeff into the backstretch wall. Jeff wasn't hurt, but the car was, hence the DNF for the night.

Thanks to the crew and a few late nights, Team 15 was back in action on Saturday night at West Liberty Speedway, where Jeff made it a clean sweep of the heat and 25 lap feature event. On a night were the track had a lot of bit, Jeff made it look easy in the Team 15, AEM powered, GRT.

August 10, 2010

Racing this Saturday night at West Liberty, see you at the races!

July 26, 2010

No caution flew and Jeff came back on the track 9th and made it back to take 5th place for the night.

34 Raceway was rained out this past Saturday night. This Wednesday is Knoxville Raceway, see you there!

The rain held off this past Saturday night at 34 Raceway. In heat race action, Jeff in an effort to get qualified, ended up on top of the backstretch wall. The crew fixed the car in time for the feature, and started 27th, and finished with a 16th place run. Double header this coming weekend at Lee County Speedway & West Liberty Raceway.

Well it was a wet weekend at Knoxville, but they finally got the show in on Sunday afternoon. With 52 cars to time in for the evening, Tommy timed in 22nd, which started him on the front row of the second qualifying heat race. In the early part of the race Elston was leading until being passed by Brian Birkhofer. Tommy was now in second, but on the white flag lap, a lapped car incident caused Tommy to spin and the caution flew. Elston had to go to the tail of the field, and with a green, white, checkered finish, did not have enough time to mount a challenge.

Having to start the B-main in 10th place and finished 14th. Tommy did not advance on to the main event.

September 28, 2009

For those of you that may have showed up late Friday night at West Liberty or just came for the 100 lap race on Saturday, we were there on Friday night and were wrecked by another driver in hot laps(practice). It would probably be easier to list what wasn't broken or bent on the car, and that is why Tommy did not even get to qualify Friday night for the Liberty 100.

It will take some work, but Team 15 will have a car ready for Tommy to drive for the Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals at Knoxville this Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Don't forget the Auction at the Sprint Car Hall of Fame this Saturday, some great items will be sold at this auction again this year.

September 21, 2009

This past weekend was the Pepsi USA Late Model Nationals at 34 Raceway and a total of 64 cars were on hand to try to take home the $10,000 prize. On Friday night, Tommy qualified the GRT late model ninth for the 100 lap event. In the feature Tommy was as high as 5th at one point in the race, but the handling went away and he had to settle with an 11th place finish. Mike Smith, drove the second car, but a bad time trial made it tough to get qualified for the feature event, having to start toward the back of the qualifying race and last chance race.

Next race is this Friday & Saturday night at West Liberty for the Liberty 100. See you at the races.

September 8, 2009

Saturday night was the "Drive For Five" final at Lee County Speedway, with 42 cars competing for the top prize. Tommy qualified out of his heat race and started the 35 lap feature in the 14th position. At the finish Elston made a top five finish for the night. The second car driven by Chris Richard, failed to qualify, and his quote of the night was "This car's faster than the driver is!"

The next race is at 34 Raceway for the $10,000 to win Pepsi Nationals.

August 31, 2009

It was Season Championship night at 34 Raceway on Saturday night. Having to start at the back of the feature Tommy made a run to 9th place. The second car driven by Jeff Guengerich, finished the night in 15th place.

We tried to bring home two trophies from the Iowa State Fair on Tuesday, August 18th., but fell a few spots short. First, crew member Chris Richard competed in the Iowa State Fair Auctioneer's Contest, and was named reserve champion.

Then in the evening it was off to the races at the big 1/2 mile Iowa State Fair Speedway. A great crowd was on hand watching the event and we won the qualifying race and redrew number 8 for the starting position in the 35 lap feature event. Tommy finished the evening in fourth without any damage to the car. Our next race is one week from this Friday at Donnellson.

August 17, 2009
Well, racing can have its highs, lows and sometimes its upside downs….and that's what happened this past Friday night at Lee County Speedway. It was in the feature event on lap three, the wreck started by another car hitting Tommy, causing the car to end up on its top. Thankfully nobody was hurt in the incident. The car will race this Tuesday, at the Iowa State Fair, hope to see everyone there!

August 10, 2009
This past Saturday night Team 15 was in racing action for a weekly show at 34 Raceway. Tommy, after qualifying 10th for the feature, finished fifth. The next race will be this Friday night at Lee County Speedway.

August 5, 2009
Last night was the $10,000 to win Tornado Tuesday show at West Liberty. With 28 cars and some of the top national drivers in attendance, like Birkhofer, Moyer & Shirley, it would be interesting to see how Team 15 stacked up against the touring drivers. In the heat race, Tommy finished third. In the feature Tommy tried to avoid a first lap wreck in turn three and hit the turn 3 wall hard, needless to say that ended the night for Team 15. Brian Birkhofer won the race and lapped all but the second place car of Billy Moyer.

August 3, 2009

What a difference a week can make! This past Friday night at Lee County Speedway saw Tommy put on a passing clinic in the heat race, as he started at the tail of the heat race and won. Then in the feature event, Elston started 9th and made a charge to third, finishing behind winner Mark Burgtorf & second place finisher Tony Fraise.

Next race is this Tuesday night at West Liberty Raceway. Please note a race date has been added this Saturday night at 34 Raceway.

July 27, 2009
It was a disappointing night at Lee County Speedway on Friday night, with high expectations, Team 15 came home with only a 8th place finish in the feature. Hopefully we will improve for this coming Friday night's races at Lee County Speedway.

July 23, 2009

Last night was Mahaska County Fair at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Tommy finished the qualifying heat race in third, ahead of Jeff Aikey by one spot. In the feature, Elston started in the third position and made an early challenge for the lead over Aikey, but the 77 of Aikey was alittle bit faster & was able to get through lapped traffic quicker. Tommy had to settle with a second place finish on the night.

Next race is this Friday night at Lee County Speedway, for the Drive for Five.

Tommy Elston & Team 15 Win The Harris Clash at Knoxville, Iowa!

It was a history making night, as Tommy Elston put his name in the record books as a feature winner at the famous Knoxville Raceway, in Knoxville, Iowa. Fourty six IMCA late models were set to do battle at the super fast ½ mile dirt track, with five qualifying heat races. Elston was the winner of the fifth heat race, but redrew the 10th starting position for the 35 lap feature event.

Thirty cars made up the feature event. From the start Tommy, in the GRT/Monte Carlo/AEM racing engines, improved his position throughout the race, passing cars both on the high & low sides of the speedway. With a handful of laps left, Elston was now in the 3rd position, steadily reeling in the leaders of Jeff Aikey & Jason Frankel. A caution with 3 laps to go, set up a restart that propelled Tommy by Frankel. His sights were now on the race leader of Aikey, with the white flag in the air they were both side by side at the line. Elston made the pass for the lead in turns 1 & 2 on the bottom side of the track, and then won the race by four car lengths at the line. This was Elston's second win on the Deery Brothers Summer Series this year.

Sixty six IMCA late models checked in on Saturday night at 34 Raceway for the season opener for the IMCA Summer Series. The luck of the draw/redraw system for line ups was not with Team 15, having to start at the tail of the third qualifying heat and failing to make the qualifying position in the heat race. Starting towards the back of the second last chance race, Tommy passed numerous cars to clinch the final transfer spot for the 50 lap main event.

Starting 20th in the Slocum 50 Memorial race, Tommy brought the car home to a 12th place finish. Although it was not a win, it sure felt like it having to pass that many cars in one night. Next race is this Friday night at Davenport Speedway.

It's official…..the racing season is finally underway! This past Saturday night was the WDRL's season opener at the Davenport Speedway, this also being the first race of the season for Team 15 with Tommy Elston at the wheel. Thirty three cars were checked in to do battle, at the ½ mile Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds track. Starting at the back of the 3rd qualifying heat, Tommy finished third therefore accumulating enough passing points to start in the pole dash, which determines the top 8 starting positions of the feature. Passing was at a premium, Elston started sixth in the feature and got "nipped" at the line to finish the night in the seventh position.

The next race is this Saturday night at 34 Raceway for the season opener for the IMCA Summer Series, it is the Slocum 50….See you at the races!

The 2009 racing season will be a new beginning for Team 15. Lynn & Karen Richard are enthusiastic about having Tommy Elston as their driver of the #15 late model. Over the years there have been many drivers for the team including: Mike Smith, Ron Jackson, Jerry Pilcher, Denny Banks, Matt Strassheim, Lynn & Chris Richard.

In 2009, Elston will wheel the Team 15/GRT/AEM powered Monte Carlo on the dirt tracks in the Tri State area. A VERY tentative schedule has been posted, watch for updates as other racing series schedules are released.
